Media Day with Jeff Parke
March 25, 2008
MetroFanatic: Jeff, the most important thing, is why the hell did you stay with #60?
Jeff Parke: You gotta stick with one number. At least this year nobody swiped my number, right?
MF: We were maybe expecting negative 6, or 112 or something like that.
JP: Nah. 60 is better. I like it, it's original, nobody in the league has it. It's a number I feel secure that nobody is gonna come along and grab.
MF: Now, to a more serious topic, last year you proclaimed that you're gonna score a few goals for us, and you're in what, a three and a half year drought now?
JP: Yeah... I had a lot of balls cleared off the line, got a little bit unlucky. This year, I gotta work on it a little bit more, getting in front of the goal, and work on my heading. You gotta time it, and I think it will come.
MF: It looks like you'll be playing in the middle of a 3-5-2. How has that transition been for you?
JP: Good, a little different obviously, but it's something that puts more pressure on the other teams. Hopefully, it works out for us.
MF: What's your impression of Juan Carlos Osorio so far?
JP: Good coach, very intense guy, knows the game real well...
MF: More intense than Bob Bradley?
JP: Wow, that's a good one! (thinks) Pretty darn close, but on the same level. He's a little bit more fiery. Bob's more, you look at him, and you can feel it.
MF: The stare.
JP: Yeah. But they are both very good coaches.
MF: This is your fifth year, so Bob, Mo, Richie, Bruce, and now Osorio.
JP: That's a pretty good track record.
MF: That's one way to look at it.
JP: You had intense, then laid back but knows the game well, then you don't know when Richie comes in if he's gonna stay or go, and then you got Bruce, who's intense but knows the game a lot, and now you've got one of the most intense guys I've ever been around.
MF: What were your three favorite things about Austria?
JP: (laughs. thinks. thinks some more.) The charter flight. The country is actually beautiful. And the town we stayed in, great town. A lot of history with it, culture. Enjoyed taking it all in. It's what you're there for, the sightseeing and the playing. It was a really good time.
MF: So, any bold predictions for goal-scoring this year?
JP: No. I hope for it, but I'm not gonna make any predictions.
