Media Day with Jon Conway
March 25, 2008
MetroFanatic: Jon, this is your first year entering as the number one goalkeeper. However. last year, you prophetically told me that you would be number one by the year's end. Any predictions for this year?
Jon Conway: No predictions.
MF: So you're not gonna predict that you'll end up as the number two or number three?
JC: (laughs) No, obviously not gonna predict that. Obviously, excited for the year, to get started. Preseason tends to drag on, I'm ready to go in.
MF: Some fans are disappointed with the team's preseason results.
JC: Obviously, with a new coach coming in, you're gonna have some lag time to get everything sorted out, so I think we're fine. I think our results in Austria were decent, obviously the trip down to Charleston wasn't as successful as we would have liked it to be, but it's still preseason.
MF: So you mentioned Austria... what were your three favorite things about it?
JC: Ummmm...
MF: Or four, or five?
JC: The beauty of the country, the mountains are quite beautiful. The club was nice, they have their team well sorted, a very professional environment. And Red Bull's owner has a lot of nice toys. (laughs) Bunch of airplanes and helicopters. He's got some nice stuff.
MF: What was a deal with that photo in the M shape, with you in the middle?
JC: They did that because they were doing the same picture that the Salzburg team did, I'm not exactly sure what that means, what the M signifies.
MF: But you were right there in the middle.
JC: Yeah, I guess being the biggest guy, you gotta be in the middle.
MF: Zach was brought in to back you up, he's got a little more experience. Are you worried about the competition?
JC: It's always been a competition here, since I've been here. That's the only way a team gets better, by having competition at every position and pushing yourself each day in training, and making it happen in games.
