March 23, 2002: MetroStars 3, New England 1
Another home opener against the Revs, another win. Alex Pineda Chacon opens the scoring in the 50th, but that leads to floodgates opening. Three minutes later, Rodrigo Faria evens it. Then, Faria's cross is headed in by the Revs' Carlos Llamosa for an own goal. Clint Mathis rounds out the scoring with a header. New players: 4 (Diego Serna, Brian Kamler, Sam Forko, Winston Griffiths).
April 12, 2003: MetroStars 0, Columbus 1
Three Project-40 rookies (Ricardo Clark, Mike Magee, Jacob LeBlanc) start for Metro in a match that goes scoreless for 89 minutes, before the Crew's Jeff Cunningham spoils it for the home crowd. New players: 6 (Clark, Magee, LeBlanc, Eddie Pope, Jaime Moreno, Joey DiGiamarino).
April 3, 2004: Columbus 1, MetroStars 3
The Crew is no match for the rampaging Metros. Frankie Hejduk gives his team the lead on the half-hour, but Metro responds through a rare header by Magee. John Wolyniec scores the winner in his usual fashion, after being knocked down to the ground earlier on the play. Amado Guevara adds the third. New players: 3 (Joselito Vaca, Jeff Parke, Fabian Taylor).
April 2, 2005: MetroStars 0, Salt Lake 0
A surreal match sees the return of Mathis to Giants Stadium, wearing the colors of Real Salt Lake, in what was his new team's opening game. A monsoon, coupled with 50-mile-per-hour winds that toy with the ball, controls the match more than the players do. New players: 3 (Michael Bradley, Jeff Agoos, Carlos Mendes).
April 2, 2006: DC United 2, New York 2
The first league match after the re-branding sees Metro open the scoring through a terrific free kick by Youri Djorkaeff and then double the lead after debutant Edson Buddle pounces on a loose ball. Alecko Eskandarian and Facundo Erpen score in the second half to level the match for the Scum. New players: 6 (Buddle, Taylor Graham, Chris Henderson, Marvell Wynne, Danny O'Rourke, Peter Canero).
April 7, 2007: Columbus 0, New York 0
A ho-hum affair in Columbus sees the third straight draw for Metro in its opener. Mathis makes his Metro return as a second-half sub. New players: 5 (Ronald Waterreus, Claudio Reyna, Dave van den Bergh, Dane Richards, Sinisa Ubiparipovic).
