Red Bulls forward John Wolyniec scored two first-half goals and Sainey Touray added a marker as the Red Bulls played to a 3-3 draw against the Chicago Fire in an MLS reserve match today.
Chicago opened the scoring in just the seventh minute when Tomasz Frankowski beat Danny Cepero with a low shot from the left side of the 18-year box after defender John Gilkerson's clear was intercepted by Chicago's Andy Herron. Five minutes later, the Red Bulls leveled the score when Touray finished a Matt Mbuta cross with a header from in close into the top left corner past Fire goalkeeper Nick Noble. The Fire took the lead again in the 20th minute when Chicago's Herron dribbled past a Red Bulls defender and sent a cross into the area that was deflected into the net by Red Bulls Carlos Mendes for an own-goal.
Then the Red Bulls Wolyniec scored two goals in a six minute span to lift New York into the lead. In the 23rd minute, Red Bulls midfielder David Roth sent a cross into the box and Wolyniec nodded it home to level the match at two apiece. Then six minutes later, Wolyniec struck again when he tipped in a Matt Mbuta cross from the right side into the net to put New York ahead, 3-2, in the 29th minute. It was Mbuta's second assist of the match.
But Chicago's Peter Lowry knotted the match just three minutes later when he headed a cross from the right side by Luke Williams past Cepero from the left post and into the low near corner.
