Ten Best: Individual seasons (update)
December 1, 2008

Since we first looked at the ten best individual seasons in Metro history, an update has to be made. For descriptions of the initial top ten, see the original article, as well as last year's update.

  • 10) Giovanni Savarese, 1998

  • 9) Tim Howard, 2002

  • 8) Adolfo Valencia, 2000

  • 7) Dave van den Bergh, 2008
The year started with van den Bergh scoring less than a minute into the season and ended with him tallying seven goals and five assists. The Walking Dutchman carried Metro for long stretches of time and although he lost the team MVP to Juan Pablo Angel, he was named MetroFanatic Player of the Year. Then, in the playoff semifinals, van den Bergh scored the biggest goal in team history in a 1:0 win over Salt Lake that put Metro into its first MLS Cup.

  • 6) Amado Guevara, 2004

  • 5) Eddie Pope, 2003

  • 4) Juan Pablo Angel, 2007

  • 3) Youri Djorkaeff, 2005

  • 2) Tim Howard, 2001

  • 1) Clint Mathis, 2000
