Q&A with draft pick Jack Traynor
January 21, 2009
Metro's second round draft pick Jack Traynor was kind enough to answer a few questions, just a couple of days after becoming the newest member of the team.
MetroFanatic: The only left back with MLS experience on the NY roster is fellow Golden Domer Kevin Goldthwaite. Do you view him as a mentor or as competition?
Jack Traynor: I think all they guys here are mentors for all the young guys coming in, especially Kevin, who's a left back. I can see how he plays, any pros or cons, and can learn from him and all the experienced guys here.
MF: What are you feelings about playing for New York?
JT: Great. It's unbelievable. The fans here are great. It's everything you could wish for. You have the city lifestyle, but at the same time you still have the soccer, which makes it that much better. The team made it to the finals last year and hopefully we can improve on that, so I'm very excited to be here.
MF: What is your impression of Juan Carlos Osorio?
JT: Great guy. Straightforward, very good coach. He definitely tells you how he feels, but it's always in a positive way. He's always trying to help you and benefit the way you play.
MF: Why are you pursuing soccer as opposed to your dream of becoming a CPA?
JT: You only live once. You can only play soccer for so many years, so you have to put that first and if it doesn't work out, then there's always pursuing the CPA, but obviously soccer my first and foremost dream.
MF: Alexi Lalas called NY the loser of this draft. Why is he wrong?
JT: Well, I think that everybody has their own opinion on who are the winners and losers in the draft. I think our class coming in is a pretty good class. Jeremy Hall and Nick Zimmerman -- those two guys are very good players and I would hope to include myself the same way, but I think in the preseason and beginning of the season, we'll prove him wrong and show everyone we're one of the better classes to come through.
