Spain World Cup vet Celades, two others in camp
February 22, 2009
Albert Celades, who played two games for Spain at the 1998 World Cup, is one of three new trialist in Metro's Argentina camp. The Andorra-born defensive midfielder, 33, came through the youth team of Barcelona, and also played for Celta Viga, Real Madrid, Bordeaux, and Real Zaragoza. He won the Spanish league four times and was a member of Real's Champions League-winning side of 2002.
Also in camp are two defenders, Mexican Jamie Duran, 27, who spent the bulk of his career with Atlas, and also played for Puebla, Leon, and Morelia in his native country, as well as Greece's Skoda Xanthi, and Trinidad international Aklie Edwards, 23, currently with Defense Force.
In other potential player news, El Salvadoran international Alfredo Pacheco has confirmed to La Prensa Grafica that he has been in contact with RBNY's Jeff Agoos. The left back should not count against the international limit, because his mother is a US citizen. Also, according to the New York Post, RBNY is still interested in Costa Rican right back Carlos Johnson, who might join the team in Argentina if he can get released from his current club, Norway's Bryne FC, and Pacheco's El Salvador teammate, midfielder Cristian Castillo, 24, of Alianza FC.
