Media Day with Macoumba Kandji
March 16, 2009
MetroFanatic: Mac, you're a refugee in America, right?
Macoumba Kandji: Yeah, my mom is, so they're trying to put me under her status. So that makes me a refugee, I guess.
MF: So you can't go outside the country.
MK: I can't go yet. I'm waiting for my papers. I can't go to the games we have in Canada or away games at the CONCACAF.
MF: You came in from the USL last year, how is it different now?
MK: It's a little bit different. The transition is good, very smoothly. Just one step at a time.
MF: It seems you tried some fancy moves, and they don't always work in MLS.
MK: Yeah! Even in the USL, they don't always work. But the coaches encourage you to keep doing it, if you can try it five times, and in one out of five, you go by, it will be a goal.
MF: So 20% is a good rate?
MK: Yeah, I'd say 50%, 60%.
MF: So that's what you want to get?
MK: No, no. What I want to get is 95%. That's my goal.
MF: You came in as a striker, but were used on the wing somewhat.
MK: Even in Atlanta, I was playing striker and right wing, and here I'm available to play either striker, or left, or right wing. Either way. I can play the wing, I can play up top.
MF: No problems with the wing?
MK: No problems, no problems. I would be happy to play there.
