Road horror show continues in Columbus, 1:0
June 27, 2009
We are not lip readers, but it was quite obvious Juan Carlos Osorio swore on the sidelines when Metro allowed yet another goal late in the first half. That goal proved to be enough, as Metro lost once again, 1:0 to Columbus. Eight straight winless games, still without a win on the road, shutout once again... God, it's tiring.
With Juan Pablo Angel hurt, Osorio started a 4-5-1, inserting Khano Smith in midfield for his first start in months. Smith contributed a couple of turnovers and... a pass. He might have passed the ball once.
Late in the first half, Alfredo Pacheco headed over the crossbar the ball that was going straight into the net on a Crew corner kick. Moments later, another corner kick led to Chad Marshall jumping over the much-shorter Jeremy Hall, and heading in the only goal Columbus would need.
Carlos Mendes left the gave late in the first half, re-aggregating his injury, and was replaced by Sinisa Ubiparipovic. Matthew Mbuta entered at halftime for John Wolyniec, meaning that with his team behind in the game, Osorio took out his lone forward. The second half was typical of this morbid club this year: a couple of half-chances that did not look close to going into the net.
At halftime, Osorio told Fox Soccer Channel that if someone told him why his team allows all those late goals, he would give that person a million dollars.
It's because you're a terrible coach, Juan Carlos Osorio.
Lineup: Cepero, Pacheco, Boyens, Mendes, Hall, Sassano, Stammler, Rojas, Zimmerman, Smith, Wolyniec. Subs: Ubiparipovic, Mbuta, Borman.
