Jeff Agoos, enjoying his vacation
August 18, 2009
This is Jeff Aggos, RBNY's Sporting Director. This is Jeff Agoos, still learning on the job. This is Jeff Agoos, giving six-figure deals to players who can't break the starting lineup. This is Jeff Agoos, who helped build the horrible roster mired in the middle of the worst season in league history.
And this is Jeff Agoos, on vacation.
That's right. According to SoccerByIves, Jeff Agoos recently took off on vacation, even as his team is keeps tail-spinning into historical destitute. The offseason is not long enough for you, Mr. Agoos? Or did you give up on this season just like almost the entire fanbase has? Only the fans have their good reasons; this is your JOB!
But for how long will it keep being your job? SoccerByIves seems to think that Agoos is secure. And if that's the case... what the hell is Red Bull thinking?
Let's play a little game. Agoos is in charge of player acquisitions. Name ONE good trade or signing he has done since taking over before the 2008 season. Name ONE.
Hmmmm. Let's see. Oscar Echeverry. Andrew Boyens. Jorge Rojas, Juan Pietravallo, Gabriel Cichero. Diego Jimenez was OK and cheap, but he was let go after the season. Macoumba Kandji... sure, there's promise, but he cost 175K in transfer fees and has two goals this year. Matthew Mbuta doesn't play. Mike Petke we love, but he's a bit past his prime. Khano Smith? Khano Smith will go down as the worst player on the worst team in league history. Giving up Dominic Oduro for Dave van den Bergh???? (calming down, calming down...) Dumping Eric Brunner? Not signing high draft picks Babajide Ogunbiyi and Jack Traynor? Passing on a first round pick to take a second rounder for Mike Magee? Dumping Chris Leitch, replacing him with red card machine Carlos Johnson? Alfredo Pacheco, good for a goal against a game? Albert Celades, slow and ineffective? Bouna Coundoul, OK, sure, but does this team need a goalie? Leo Krupnik? Leo f@#$ing Krupnik? Oh, we're sorry Leo, we're sure you're a nice enough guy, but to pay six figures to someone who was recommended by Agoos' brother, someone who was directly responsible for three goals on his debut, someone who can't get off the bench... LEO F@#$ING KRUPNIK? Ernst Oebster, was he really worth all the trouble? And now Walter Garcia, who, granted, we haven't seen play, but does this team need yet another center back when it has one healthy forward?
No, seriously, Mr. Agoos, are there ANY of your roster moves that have worked out?
How the hell can Red Bull justify keeping this man employed?
