MetroFanatic Bum of the Decade
December 22, 2009
Last week, we crowned our Hero of the Decade. That selection was hard; the selection of Bum of the Decade will be even harder.
For this prodigiously horrible award, we need to consider more than players. Coaches, management, opponents... There are plenty of candidates. But this is Bum of the Decade. We need someone who sucked so much, it was epic.
So let's go through the runner-ups:
Steve Shak. #1 draft pick, awful, BUM.
Mamadou Diallo. Rib breaker, BUM.
Metro Front Office. From Nick Sakiewicz on down, BUMS.
Jaime Moreno. Sadly, Metro for a minute, BUM.
Sergio Galvan Rey. In 2004, BUM.
Peter Canero. Terrible, useless, BUM.
Marc de Grandpre. Soda salesman, BUM.
Claudio Reyna. Designated player, BUM.
Gabriel Cichero. Goal giveaway machine, BUM.
Juan Pietravallo. "Hard Man", BUM.
Juan Carlos Osorio. Student of the game, BUM.
Khano Smith. The worst player on the worst team of the decade, BUM.
Jeff Agoos. Second worst GM ever, BUM.
All would be worthy candidates. But only one can wear the crown.
Alexi Lalas.
What can we say that hasn't been said already? Let's put it simply: he tore up the foundation built by Bob Bradley, putting the club into a pit of despair it still has not fully recovered from. Oh, and when the going got tough, he lied through his teeth and quit. BUM.
Let's just hope there are fewer choices when we do this again in 2019.
