The New York Red Bulls broke open a match that was scoreless at the half with four unanswered tallies in the second half coast past the Fort Lauderdale Rebels, 4-0, this afternoon in Fort Lauderdale. The Red Bulls stretch their preseason record to 5-0-3 with the win.

Neither team seriously threatened the goal in the first 45 minutes. New York had the best chance of the first stanza in the 19th minute, when Macoumba Kandji sent in a dangerous cross that found John Agudelo in the area, his attempt to the lower right corner was saved by the keeper.

New York broke into the scoring column just past the hour, as Luke Sassano scored his first goal of the preseason with a hard shot from distance that found the upper right corner of the net.

Fort Lauderdale put together its best chance of the match and nearly equalized in the 67th minute, when Junior Innocen put a free kick just over the cross bar on a restart.

The Red Bulls then broke the game open with three goals over a 14 minute span. Rookie Tony Tchani started things off just two minutes after coming on, bringing down a rebound to his feet, taking a step into the box, and blistering a shot across the goal mouth and to the far post. John Wolyniec made it 3-0 three minutes later. Seth Stammler put in a cross from the right side that Ernst Oebster settled with his chest. Oebster then took a short touch to the middle to find Wolyniec for the finish. Sinisa Ubiparipovic put the match out of reach with a breakaway goal in the 86th minute, taking a Wolyniec through ball into space, deking the goalkeeper to reveal an open net, and calmly depositing the ball in the back of the net.
