The MetroStars defeated F.C. Deportivo La Chaux-de-Fonds of Switzerland, 5-1, in a scrimmage played Saturday afternoon at the Coverciano complex near Florence, Italy.
Rodrigo Faria and rookie Brad Davis each scored twice in the rout, while Byron Alvarez continued to impress with his third goal of the Italy preseason tour. Both sides played to a 1-1 draw at halftime before the MetroStars struck four times in a seven-minute span of the second half to break open the game.
The team will return Tuesday afternoon to New York/New Jersey traveling from Florence to Rome to JFK Airport arriving at 3:30 ET. The schedule for the remainder of the week has yet to be determined, but the players and staff are likely to be off for the next few days.
