Media Day with Tim Ream
March 16, 2010
MetroFanatic: Tim, our fans went to the draft, and... Tchani, hooray, da Luz, hooray, Tim Ream... who? So who is Tim Ream?
Tim Ream: Just a solid, technical all-around player, to be honest. You're not gonna get anything flashy, you're gonna get solid, consistent play day in and day out.
MF: It seems that Soler and Richie were very high on you from the combine. What did you do to impress them?
TR: I didn't have the best combine. I played all right the first game...
MF: Maybe they only watched the first game?
TR: Maybe they did... but I highly doubt that. After that, my third game was OK. I didn't do anything spectacular.
MF: So do you know what they saw in you?
TR: Vision on the field. The way I approach it mentally and the way I organize my teammates. It's not easy going down there, playing with a bunch of guys you don't know. You gotta be vocal.
MF: It would be highly unusual for a young defender to organize his teammates on the pro level.
TR: It's very unusual, but Mike Petke has helped me out a lot: don't be shy, speak up. You're a rookie, but you can organize guys. Everyone has been great.
MF: So is it likely you'll start in the middle next week? If there is a next week.
TR: If there is a next week, I can't really say. Hans has been switching it up a lot, everyone has been getting pretty much equal playing time.
MF: This is gonna be weird... People have been wondering about your name, saying it sounds like a porn name...
TR: I don't think about it. People can say what they want to say, it's just a name.
MF: You can play it up.
TR: Yeah, but... eh. It's just a name.
MF: How did you handle the transition from college to the pro level?
TR: I like to think I transition well. It's a different game, it's quicker. A lot of people don't think I have the pace, but I think I showed that I do have the pace in the preseason tournament. It's just adjustment to the pace of play and the physicality, and I think I've done that pretty well. The guys have helped me out. All the veterans stepped in and gave me pointers on what to do.
