Media Day with Conor Chinn
March 16, 2010
MetroFanatic: Conor, so tell us, are you really nationally ranked?
Conor Chinn: That was just a big misunderstanding by the people who did that commercial. I did the commercial when I was 14, in high school, and at the time I was on a pretty good team, and the team was ranked...
MF: The team was ranked?
CC: Yes, nationally ranked. That's what I told them, and when the commercial aired, the big underline comes and says, "national ranked, Conor Chinn".
MF: So were you just another child star abused by the system like Macaulay Culkin or Dustin Diamond?
CC: It wasn't that bad, just the occasional headshots. Here and there modeling.
MF: Modeling? Really?
CC: Just smalltime. Get a little extra money in the pocket.
MF: Now, some people say that the system you endorse is what's wrong with American soccer. Kids should play with other kids, not with some apparatus.
CC: Yeah, I never used anything like that...
MF: Wow! So you were lying in the commercial?
CC: Well, they gave it to me beforehand. I guess if you don't have anyone around, you kick the ball, you work on your touch, but definitely the best thing is to go find a team and play with people. It's in the past, I gotta live with it.
MF: With Youtube, nothing is in the past!
CC: I can't do anything to change it, I can just laugh about it now.
MF: You do have a good sense of humor about it.
CC: Yeah. You just gotta stay positive about it, you gotta laugh it off.
MF: Speaking of positive, you had a pretty good preseason.
CC: Yeah, I've been scoring a couple of goals. Just trying to get my game to where I can see some good time on the field.
MF: Now, you probably are not aware, but the coveted preseason scoring championship, about which no one cares about, you have four. Juan Pablo has six. So you need to score three against Santos... Seven is also the team record. Will you give us a hat trick this weekend?
CC: (laughs) Against Santos? I'll make sure to try to do that. That'll be fun.
