The New York Red Bulls took advantage of first half set piece situations in their 3-0 reserve match win over St. John's University. The Red Bulls converted a penalty kick and off a free kick to take a 2-0 lead at half and tallied another before the end of the game, with goals coming from Salou Ibrahim, Andrew Boyens and Conor Chinn.

Sixteen minutes into the match, recent Red Bulls signing Ibrahim slotted home a penalty kick after a St. John's handball inside the box. Another opportunity came in the 34th minute. A St. John's foul on the left touchline set up a Sinisa Ubiparipovic free kick. Boyens connected with the ball at the back post and headed it into the goal.

St. John's had several dangerous opportunities in the first half - most notably a dipping shot that looked destined for the far upper corner, but ended up on the wrong side of the back post.

Rookie Austin da Luz replaced Ubiparipovic at halftime. With St. John's pushing for an equalizer in the second half, the game opened up, giving the Red Bulls the space to establish their passing game.

A clever overlapping play with Juan Agudelo saw Chris Albright find space behind the St. John's defense in the 50th minute. Cutting in towards goal, Albright slid a ball across the six-yard box to an onrushing Chinn, who easily tapped it in to make it 3-0.
