Dane Richards leads Metro over Man City, 2:1
July 25, 2010
In one game, Dane Richards not only matched his season's assist total, but also scored the game-winning goal on a terrific play. Metro won 2:1... it's just too bad the game didn't count. Yes, the victory over Manchester City came in the final game of the New York Football Challenge, but the New York Football Challenge is neither New York, nor football, nor a challenge. Discuss.
Metro opened the scoring in the seventh minute, after Richards blew past former English international and spurned lover Wayne Bridge, ran by the endline and crossed to Mac Kandji in front of the net. The Senegalese striker had an easy conversion.
Man City evened the score in the 55th minute, when Jo (that's Joao Alves de Assis Silva for the uninformed) scored from close range.
Richards shone again in the 70th minute, when Kandji passed the ball back to him. The much-maligned Jamaican blasted the ball off the crossbar and into the net. Now if he could only do that in a match that's worth something. Metro's 2:1 lead stood for the rest of the game.
Oh yeah, and Thierry Henry played 45 minutes.
