Ten Best: Draft picks (update)
January 11, 2011
With the 2011 SuperDraft a couple of days away, let's revisit our list of Top 10 Metro draft picks, which we originally compiled in 2007. Remember, draft position counts!
10) Ricardo Clark: 2nd, 2003
9) Rodrigo Faria: 13th, 2001
8) Dane Richards: 19th, 2007 We originally had Dane #9 on our list, but he moves up a spot. While not the most consistent one out there, he has given us four solid seasons already, including one of the greatest performances in team history in the 2008 playoffs against Houston. All that from the 19th player taken.
7) Michael Bradley: 36th, 2004
6) Eddie Gaven: 12th, 2003
5) Mike Petke: 8th (College), 1998
4) Tim Ream: 18th, 2010 Of course. The unheralded defender became a rookie sensation, playing every minute for one of the best defenses in league history. It all ended with a call-up to the US national team. Few Metro rookie seasons have been better. The only way for Ream to go on this list is up.
3) Jeff Parke: 60th, 2004
2) Jozy Altidore: 17th, 2006
1) Giovanni Savarese: 89th (Inaugural), 1996
