The Red Bulls Reserves fell to West Virginia University 1-0 on Saturday morning at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. Shadow Sebele's 23rd minute goal for the Mountaineers was the only strike of the match.

In the 23rd minute, the Mountaineers took the lead when Sebele went in alone on goal and put it into the back of the net with his left boot.

The Red Bulls countered the Mountaineer tally when forward Marcos Paullo led midfielder John Rooney in the 24th minute, giving Rooney an opportunity to shoot, but his attempt sailed just over the crossbar.

Red Bulls Academy product Brandon Allen had the best opportunity of the first half for New York when Rooney found him with some open space inside the box. However, Allen's shot was parried away by the diving West Virginia goalkeeper Pat Eavenson. Eavenson was put to the test once again in the 45th minute when Allen fed Paullo, who blasted a shot that Eavenson parried away.

The Red Bulls were able to counter in the 56th minute when Paullo found Rooney on a nifty through ball, but West Virginia defender Uzi Tayou recovered and stopped the attack, knocking the ball away from Rooney and ending the threat. In the 60th minute, midfielder Matt Kassel intercepted a pass and led a wide open Paullo to the middle of the field, but Paullo was not able to corral the through ball and it went out of reach and over the endline for a goal kick.

The final opportunity for the Red Bulls to even the score came in the 85th minute, as Red Bulls Academy product Dan Metzger took a shot from outside the box that Eavenson had to make a diving save on. The rebound bounced to the left foot of Allen, who missed an opportunity to net the equalizer, as his shot went wide right, ensuring a 1-0 win for the Mountaineers.
