De Rosario returns to haunt Metro, 1:0

Who knows, perhaps down the line we'll be able to proclaim Metro the winner of the the Dwayne De Rosario for Dax McCarty trade. It clearly wasn't the case tonight, as De Rosario managed to do something he wasn't able to during his brief stay in New York. That is, score from the run of play, as he accounted for the lone goal in Metro's 1:0 loss to DC Scum.
The goal came in the 61st minute after a give-and-go with Josh Wolff. And since the only other notable play of the dour game was a Tim Ream save off a goalline after Charlie Davies rounded Greg Sutton late in the first half, let's discuss something that is just beyond idiotic. The Atlantic Cup. You realize Metro "won" it tonight, no?
They did, didn't they? Let the cheers commence, let the worthless trophy (wait, did we say worthless? It's beyond worthless) be presented, let...
Tonight, Metro lost. They got outplayed at -- at home -- by a supposedly inferior club. It wasn't a fluke goal that set them in, it wasn't a bad refereeing decision. They lost -- fair and square. For that they get a trophy? On what planet does this make sense?
Oh sure, they won the season series on aggregate, as if that matters. So what? Each team won a game, so basically tonight Metro is rewarded for not losing by four goals. Whatever. Perhaps we shouldn't spend that much time discussing a meaningless trophy.
Or maybe we should. It beats discussing tonight's game. Seriously, it just sucked.
