Media Day with Joe Addo
March 19, 2002
MF: Joe, you are mentioned in the book "The Miracle of Castle di Sangro".
Joe Addo: It was a very strange situation. I came from the Olympics and they wanted to sign me and I was there, and for some reason, I don't know what happened, I read it in the book, what really happened. The author sent me a copy.
MF: You were with the team this preseason, but I was told by Nick that there will be a draft for you. Do you see yourself with this team tonight?
JA: I think I am part of the team. Nothing is gonna change my mind.
MF: But let's say New England or Kansas City pick you up today, would you go there?
JA: As of now, I think of myself as a MetroStar player. I stop thinking about what's going on, all that politics and all that. My main objective is to play for the MetroStars.
MF: You scored your first MLS goal against us, and now Tampa is gone.
JA: I am clearly very disappointed that the team is no more, because I have a house there, I have a business there, my wife's also there, but I am a soccer player. I played in Europe, I played all over the world. So this is nothing new for me.
MF: A lot of Ghanaian players are named Addo. Why?
JA: (laughs) It's a very well-known name in Ghana.
MF: Just like Smith here?
JA: Exactly, exactly.
