Media Day with Rodrigo Faria
March 19, 2002
MF: Rodrigo, you came from nowhere to win rookie of the year.
Rodrigo Faria: I had a pretty good year last year, as you said I came from nowhere. But now people know me a little bit, so for this year the promise that I make is that I'll keep working hard, try to help the team as much as I can, and have a good year.
MF: Are you gonna start early on with Serna and Clint, or will you come off the bench?
RF: It's up to the coach, I don't know if I'm gonna start, but I hope so. And if I start I will help the team to get wins.
MF: You were with Flamengo and Vasco. How far did you get with them, did you get close to the full team?
RF: I've never been with the full over there, I was just trying out when I was 15, 16, or 17 years old with Flamengo and Vasco, but I was released from both teams. I was close to be part of the teams, but I was released and after that it was a big disappointment for me, so I decided to quit soccer in Brazil.
MF: You played with MetroBlack, and this year Birahim Diop is coming to the full team. Do you think the youth team is a good system as opposed to the rest of the world?
RF: This is a great thing the MetroStars are doing. This could be the biggest step for this league, if all the teams are doing the same thing that the MetroStars are doing. The MetroStars are discovering a lot of good players, like I came from MetroStars Black and Diop came from MetroStars Black. A lot of good players we got over there. It's a great and important step for the MetroStars.
