Desperate Metro goes with Chris Konopka
August 13, 2011
With starter Frank Rost sidelined from an injury because of sitting on an airplane, backup Bouna Coundoul jet-lagged from international travel, previous number one Greg Sutton on loan at Montreal, and third-stringer Alex Horwath not deemed good enough, Metro signed goalkeeper Chris Konopka. He will immediately start tonight's game versus Chicago.
Konopka, who spent the season so far with Metro reserves, was drafted by Kansas City out of Providence College in 2007. He never played in MLS, instead attempting to play in Ireland with Bohemians, Sporting Fingal, and Waterford United. This season, he's been serving as a league pool goalkeeper, similar to Horwath's role last year.
