RIP Winston Griffiths
October 25, 2011
Former MetroStar Winston Griffiths died on October 23 after mysterious circumstances. Griffiths was found naked at the side of the road, "with a lot of cuts on his body". He was taken to a hospital, but according to the doctors, he was poisoned and could not be saved.
Griffiths was acquired by the MetroStars prior to the 2002 season in a trade for D.J. Countess. He scored two games in a preseason friendly win over Southern Connecticut State University, but only played three games off the bench in the regular season, totaling 17 minutes. Griffiths was traded to the Galaxy for a third round draft pick, and finished his lone season in MLS with the Revolution, becoming one of the first players in league history to play for three teams in one season.
Griffiths was 33 years old.
