Rost departure expected
November 8, 2011
Frank Rost, who was supposed to solve the goalkeeper position when signed during the season, looks to have played his last game for Metro. "I think Frank will go back. I'm quite sure," Hans Backe told the NY Post. "I hope I don't say too much, but I'm quite sure he likes to go back to Germany. I haven't talked to him yet, but I guess it is like that."
Backe left the identity of Rost's replacement up in the air. Bouna Coundoul is the backup and set the team record for shutouts in 2010, but was benched this season first for Greg Sutton, then for Rost. "That's what we have to analyze," Backe said. "Also, with the salary cap and the number Bouna is on, he has to be the first choice. We can't have that kind of salary cap on the bench. So if we go in another direction, then of course we're not picking up Bouna's option then. But we have to think about it."
One player who should be back is Joel Lindpere. Backe told the post that the team is hoping to sign a long-term extension with the industrious Estonian, but if that's not possible, would exercise a club option for next season.
