Every offseason, a team faces tough decisions on which players to bring up next year. Brian Nielsen should be an open and shut case.

In two seasons with Metro, Nielsen has appeared in three league matches, for a grand total of 109 minutes. Only four of those minutes happened during the 2011 season, when he trotted against Salt Lake, entering a match that was already lost. Nielsen not only takes up a precious international slot, but also made a rather hefty salary of $120,000... Or $30,000 per minute, for those who cannot do the simple math.

But let's listen to what Erik Soler says:

"I think he can be an asset to the team. We hope that we can bring him back. We think Brian now is 98 percent. He's a great talent and can bring something to the team."

Oh, if only that quote was the ramblings of a madman and not of Metro's GM! If only one could dismiss it! 98 percent... One wonders how Soler came up with the number. Great talent... Sure, sure, what? Bring something? What exactly... Party habits?

"We also must discuss with Salzburg because this is a cooperation with Salzburg; they really like him as well," Soler went on. "We have to see if he's going to come and play for us or Salzburg. I hope it's going to be here. Then we can give him a few months to see if he can get rid of those injuries."

Oh, so Salzburg wants him as well. Terrific, isn't it. So, if he is so great, why did he spend the year here, sucking up Metro's salary cap and international slot? Of course, that last sentence takes the cake. Give him a few months? Mr. Soler, the chronically injured Nielsen has been on the roster since April 2010. That's 18 months already. That's more than a few, no? No?

Sigh.
