Could Wilman Conde be Ream's replacement?
January 13, 2012
Somewhere in Mexico, Juan Carlos Osorio is smiling on a pile of notebooks.
Wilman Conde, the man Osorio tried so hard to bring to New York, could finally be Metro-bound. The ex-Fire defender, who spent the last year with Atlas, is now out of contract. However, BigAppleSoccer is reporting that RBNY have acquired his MLS rights from an undisclosed draft pick, and he should be set joining the team soon. (SoccerByIves counters, saying that the trade is not for a pick, but for an allocation.) It seems likely that Conde is the "very exciting option" Erik Soler was talking about when discussing Tim Ream's potential replacement.
Conde was brought to the Fire by Osorio in 2007, but after the season, wanted to follow his old coach to New York, saying "the Chicago Fire is a great institution but my interests and desires are no longer with this team. It is a difficult situation but it is my desire to pursue my career with the New York Red Bulls starting this season." He ended up staying in Chicago for three more years, and was named to the MLS Best XI in 2009.
