Agudelo's, Rodgers', Lindpere's future uncertain
January 20, 2012
Perhaps we shouldn't listen to anything Erik Soler says anymore. The same man who claimed that Titi Henry is not being loaned, that Tim Ream is not being sold, and that Frank Rost is likely to return, had the following to say about Juan Agudelo just a short week ago:
"No, we are not looking at any permanent moves."
Ahem. Today, Hans Backe was clearly noncommittal in comments to the NY Post that he is not certain at all of Agudelo's return. "We'll see. I can't say anything at the moment about Juan if he's coming back or if there are some other interests. Erik is mostly involved in the offers that are coming in. I'm not sure if there have been any concrete offers, but a lot of rumors and he's with the national team now. We know the transfer window closes at the end of January in Europe, so that's the time [we'll know]."
And Agudelo is not the only striker Metro might be losing. Luke Rodgers is still in England, waiting for a visa. It initially could only be issued for one year because of Rodgers' legal problems. Backe told the Post that he expects the answer in ten days.
And oh, it gets worse. Joel Lindpere, yes, the indispensable Joel Lindpere, could be leaving as well. He's actually in camp, trying to sign a new deal with the team. RBNY did exercise a team option for 2012, but Lindpere says "I haven't signed anything. I came back and we have our agreement, and we'll see how can we work it out. Hopefully next week everything is going to be sorted out, what's going to happen with me in the future. I'm doing my part and they're doing their part that everything should go as it should go. It's only a matter of time when anything should come out. We're trying to see how it should be best for me and for them. I've been a Red Bull player for two years, and they don't want to let me go just so; so I've had a nice time here and if everything goes OK I might stay. If not, then there is a chance that I might leave."
Oh boy.
