Luis Robles hoping to get a deal
February 14, 2012
Maybe the Metro brass is not so happy with the combo of Jeremy Vuolo and Ryan Meara after all. Goalkeeper Luis Robles, whose name was first rumored as a RBNY target by the Washington Post last week, is traveling stateside in hopes of securing a contract, reports MLSsoccer.com.
The German-based American told the league's website, "we have been talking and I'll be flying to New York on Friday. Nothing's for certain or guaranteed, but the opportunity is really enticing. Deep down, we're really excited about the opportunity, but we want to be careful about how we approach it. I'll come in, I'll meet the team, I'll meet the coaches and the staff and then we're going to go from there. But going into this organization would be an incredible way to come back to America."
Robles was drafted by DC Scum in 2007, but signed with Kaiserslautern in Germany's second division instead. He started there for one season, 2008-09, before moving to Karlsruhe. There he was a starter last season, but has played in only five matches in the current campaign.
Robles has one cap for the US, and was disappointingly poor in the 2:2 draw with Haiti in the 2009 Gold Cup.
