Luis Robles now not coming
February 16, 2012

Two days ago, Luis Robles spoke about coming to New York and signing a deal. It looks like that is no longer happening, according to the Washington Post.

The Post, which broke the news of Metro interest in Robles a week ago, sites the change in MLS signing rule interpretation as the reason for the turnaround. Originally, RBNY was told that it would be able to sign Robles as a discovery player. The league's website said, "The MLS league office confirmed that Robles could be acquired by an MLS club as a "discovery" signing. The fact that the goalkeeper is not a US youth international and is not currently in the US national team player pool means the allocation and lottery mechanisms would not apply in his case."

That statement turned heads, as players with senior caps have to go through the lottery or allocation process. So, according to the Post, MLS decided to backtrack. The league changed his mind, meaning Robles would have to be acquired as an allocation, with 11 teams having the chance to take him ahead of Metro. So Robles changed his mind as well, not wanting to subject himself to randomness of the process.

Oh, MLS shenanigans! Jeremy Vuolo and Ryan Meara it is?
