Media Day with Dax McCarty
March 22, 2012
MetroFanatic: Michael, how is it going?
Dax McCarty: Very good! I'm impressed you know my real name.
MF: I also know that you were named after a romance character...
DM: I'm not sure if it's a romance character...
MF: It's a romance novel writer...
DM: Dax comes from "The Adventurers", which is a book by dad was a fan of.
MF: So your dad was a fan of that romance writer?
DM: I'm not sure, we probably have to ask him...
MF: Unfortunately, your dad is not here.
DM: Maybe I should check with him?
MF: Please do, and get back to us. I also see the mustache is a little more of a goatee...
DM: It's more of a goatee at this point. You never know, my mustache has really been bugging me. He is saying that he doesn't like to share...
MF: So you talk to your mustache?
DM: I don't talk to it, it talks to me. Definitely not creepy at all.
MF: You know what they say about creepy mustaches...
DM: Dime a dozen! (laughs)
MF: But your mustache is gone, it's dead now.
DM: Is anything as great as my mustache ever really dead? It only comes out in certain special moments. The home opener is a strong possibility.
MF: We're hoping.
DM: There's also a possibility that it will wait for another special occasion. Maybe like a date, or something like that.
MF: So the mustache helps you on dates? This is really uncharted territory.
DM: No, occasionally it helps me. I think if you have a mustache, you bring a little bit more of a distinguished look with you. You look more accomplished, a little bit older, a bit more mature.
MF: My wife hates my facial hair.
DM: Nonetheless, you do look more distinguished.
MF: Thanks! Does that thing work better in Dallas than in New York?
DM: Mustaches are a big deal in Texas. I was pretty young when I was in Dallas, facial hair is a struggle for me at times. But since I've been in DC and New York, it's really gotten full and lovely.
MF: Let's talk about DC, we know it as the Scum...
DM: Yeah, it's always fun going from rival to rival.
MF: You spent some time there, did the scumminess rub off on you?
DM: No, I don't think so!
