RFK residents
The biggest rivalry
April 18, 2012

You might have noticed that there is a recent addition to MLS, a team that plays in Chester, PA. They are called the Philadelphia Union. They have a worm on their logo. Doesn't ring a bell? We thought not.

In reality, the Union enter their third year. Yes, really. For three years, this franchise, ran by pathetic ex-Metro GM Nick Sakiewicz, has occupied one of the most disgusting hellholes in the country. And -- this might be news to you as well -- many of their fans think of themselves as New York's biggest rival. Ridiculous, we know.

For there can be only one biggest rival, and it's not the pathetic Worms. Three years? That's nothing. What about 17 years of pure hatred?

We're talking about DC Scum, of course. Oh, sure, Philadelphia has the proximity, but that's the only thing it has going for it. DC has over 60 games of bad blood, hard-fought battles and pure, pure hatred.

We will not recount most of the games here; unfortunately, Metro has not had the upper hand in this rivalry. We will not talk about DC's thug wannabe fans. We will not make fun of their potential move to Baltimore. We will not call Ben Olsen any names. Okay, fine, one name. Ben Olsen is a tool. We will not laugh at the rat and raccoon infested RFK. Rabies is no laughing matter!

What we will do is bring up are three terrific victories by Metro in RFK. In 2000, down to ten men, Metro beat DC in overtime 3:2 on a Mike Petke header. In 2003, 16-year-old Eddie Gaven came on the field as a goalkeeper and ended up scoring the game-winner on a brilliant run -- 3:2 in overtime once again. And last year, Metro romped into RFK, and behind Titi Henry's goals and Jan Gunnar Solli's assists, destroyed the Scum 4:0.

17 years!

Oh, we hate DC, oh we hate DC...
