Mehdi Ballouchy, MLS Cup talisman
July 30, 2012

Say what you want about Mehdi Ballouchy's Metro career... but it definitely had its up moments. The assist on Joel Lindpere's goal to beat Dallas in the playoffs, and the great backheel goal against Montreal, to name a couple. But we're not here to talk about that.

Mehdi Ballouchy has been traded three times. The first two times, the teams that traded him away won MLS Cup soon after.

In 2007, Ballouchy was traded from Salt Lake to Colorado for Kyle Beckerman. Today, it's easy to forget how terrible Salt Lake was at the time. They were the laughingstock of MLS. Two years after Ballouchy's departure, they were holding MLS Cup.

The transformation of Colorado was even swifter. The Rapids sent Ballouchy to Metro in September 2010 for Macoumba Kandji. Colorado was average at best that year; when the playoffs rolled around, they somehow emerged champions.

So, will Ballouchy's departure signal another MLS Cup run for the team that traded him away? We can only hope...
