Digao, Kaka's brother, on trial
September 11, 2012
When Metro was linked with Kaka earlier this year, little did we know that we might be getting his younger brother. Digao, not nearly as accomplished as his sibling, has arrived on trial. The defender was on the books of AC Milan, but only played one league match for the famed club. The 27-year-old has spent time on loan with Rimini, Crotone, as well as Liege in Belgium and Penafiel in Portugal. The trial has been confirmed by RBNY to BigAppleSoccer.
"Rodrigo, he's on trial, the big, tall guy," Hans Backe told reporters. "He just had his testing today, a fitness test, training. He's a free agent, Brazilian, played in Italy. Belongs to AC Milan, but been on loan to Serie B Lecce. He played some games, but mostly for AC Milan's reserves."
Also on trial is Scotsman Nicki Paterson. The 27-year-old midfielder spent the last two years with Charleston in the USL, and was named team MVP for the side that captured the league title. He has also played for Hamilton Academical and Clyde in his native country.
"[Paterson is] technically very good, phenomenal work rate. I would say that he's a box-to-box midfielder, even if with Charleston he almost had a free role you could say, just moving wide left, wide right, central."
Corey Hertzog, who played for Wilmington against Paterson's Charleston in the USL PRO title game, has returned from his loan.
