Metro playoff scenarios (2 games left)
October 10, 2012
Two games left in the regular season, and Metro is yet to clinch a playoff spot. Sounds familiar, doesn't it? Of course, this year clinching a playoff spot is not enough, as you want to avoid the dreaded wild card game... And right now, Metro has slipped to fourth in the East, meaning that just might be their fate. But first things first: how exactly can Metro clinch a playoff berth?
Metro is currently at 53 points. Houston trails them with 50 and Columbus with 49. Each team has two games left. The first tie-breaker is goals scored, with Metro currently at 54, Houston at 45, and Columbus at 40. So, to clinch a playoff berth, Metro needs either:
A win
A Columbus loss
A tie AND a Columbus tie
A tie AND a Houston loss
Because of Metro's vastly superior goals total, the following scenarios can't officially clinch a berth, but will come pretty damn close:
A Columbus tie
A Houston loss
A tie AND a Houston tie
Metro can clinch fourth in the East under the following scenarios:
A win AND a Houston tie or loss
A tie AND a Houston loss AND a Columbus tie or loss
