First offseason rumor: Juninho
November 30, 2012

In 1996, the MetroStars drafted Juninho. Fans got excited, before they realized it wasn't that Juninho. Well, today we have our first player rumor of the 2012/13 offseason, and it's Juninho again! No, not that one. Or the other one, obviously.

The Juninho in question is Juninho Pernambucano, an attacking midfielder playing for Vasco da Gama at the tender age of 37. He spent eight productive seasons at Lyon before going for a cash grab in Qatar and then returning for Brazil. He has scored seven goals in 47 Brazilian caps, and was part of their 2006 World Cup squad.

The connection is through Gerard Houllier; Juninho was his captain while the Frenchman was in charge of Lyon. According to Brazil's Futnet, Red Bull's global boss has traveled to Rio de Janeiro to discuss a possible reuniting.

Update: Brazil's Esporte is reporting that Juninho is traveling to the US to discuss the details of the proposed deal with RBNY.
