Metro loses in the snowy desert, 2:0
February 20, 2013 (Official Game Summary)
The New York Red Bulls dropped a 2-0 decision to Seattle Sounders in Desert Diamond Cup play at the Kino Sports Complex Wednesday evening. With one game to play, the Red Bulls are now 2-2-1 in the 2013 preseason.
Amid heavy snowfall throughout the contest, New York had a good share of the scoring chances in the opening 45 minutes. Juninho almost recorded his second goal in as many games in the fifth minute, curling a free kick over the Sounders wall and just past the right post. Later, Fabian Espindola created space from 25 yards and shot it high. Espindola and defender Jamison Olave had other attempts in the half that were saved by goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann.
Despite New York's pressure, Seattle took the lead in the 36th minute. Sounders forward Travis Bowen took a shot that goalkeeper Luis Robles saved. However, Alex Caskey was first to the rebound and fired it home from the right side of the penalty box.
In the second half, New York looked to tie the game up and Red Bulls Academy product Amando Moreno came close, sliding his shot wide left 10 minutes in.
Mario Martinez doubled the Sounders' advantage with 12 minutes left, latching onto a loose ball from long range and volleying it into the back of the net.
