Media Day with Connor Lade
February 25, 2013
MetroFanatic: Connor, you came a long way in a year, haven't you?
Connor Lade: I like to think so, I think I got a wealth of experience in the past year. It's all been great, I'm just trying to continue to grow as a player.
MF: When Titi Henry says that you're the team's MVP, that carries some weight.
CL: I can't say I necessarily agree with that, I'm always grateful when someone says good things about me, and coming from a guy like that, it's always nice to hear, but I think we had a lot of great players last year. And I think it's gonna be even more exciting this year.
MF: Are you more comfortable in the defense or midfield?
CL: I think either way...
MF: Make a choice, make a stand!
CL: I don't think I can, I think...
MF: Yeah, the coach might read this...
CL: I think I'm gonna have to continue be a versatile player, no matter where they see me playing, I'm gonna make the most of it, and just try my hardest.
MF: You're not tall, it's obvious...
CL: No surprise!
MF: Do you think that in MLS that's a minus?
CL: It's not a surprise, I'm never the tallest guy on the field, most days, but it's been that way my whole life.
MF: Me too, I just got no skills.
CL: (laughs) I've been fighting bigger guys my whole life, and I've come to enjoy these types of battles. Whenever I come out on top, it feels good, no pun intended. I like to think that I can stand up to any challenge. Height is not really a problem.
MF: Academy graduates have not really been successful on this team, and some have commented about the lack of opportunity. Care to comment on that?
CL: I don't think I can speak on anyone else's behalf, but I had a great experience throughout the academy. I was very fortunate that they took a chance on me and took me in to the first team. It's tough coming out of the academy, but my preparation both there and in college helped me transition into this level. I think it's been a great transition so far.
MF: Speaking of skills, supposedly you're quite the heartthrob with some of the female employees.
CL: Oh really?
MF: There are rumors going around...
CL: (laughs) Wow!
MF: Do you have something to say about that?
CL: I do not, I cannot speak on anyone's behalf.
MF: So you can neither confirm nor deny this?
CL: No, I mean... (laughs) I don't even know how to answer that! My girlfriend wouldn't be happy!
MF: He's taken, ladies.
CL: Yes, I am. Happily taken.
