So much for job security. Defender Tyler Ruthven, who was signed by the team -- without it being announced, had his contract torn up before the season even started.

"Don't really know how to say this -- after agreeing to terms, passing medical, etc. my contract was torn up today," Ruthven tweeted. "Turns out I won't be with RBNY this year. It's unfortunate and I am devastated."

It's beyond unfortunate. Here's a player who proved last year that he belongs in MLS, a player who can provide sorely needed depth, a player who couldn't be making much above the league minimum, unceremoniously dumped.
