Digao makes $200,000
May 6, 2013
Every year, when the MLS player salaries come out, heads are turned. He makes... this little? Alright, more often it's he makes... that much?
Let's get straight to it. Digao makes $200,000. That's right. Digao, who hasn't played a minute this year, is tied with Juninho as the team's fifth-highest-paid player. (DPs Thierry Henry and Tim Cahill, as well as Jamison Olave and Heath Pearce, make more. Part of Pearce's salary is paid by Chivas USA.)
And this is for a team with a supposedly crippled salary cap. This is for a team which had to jettison Kenny Cooper just to tread above water. And this is for Digao.
Digao, who has played a total of one minute since singing with the club last year. Digao, who is perpetually injured. Digao, who can't even make the bench. Digao, who never had a healthy season in his career. Digao, who has been jettisoned by teams all over the world. Digao, who has been described by some observers as terrible in practice. Digao, who is what? 8th on the defender depth chart? Out of eight defenders?
Digao, whose brother is Kaka.
Does it make any sense?
