Ibrahim Sekagya arrives on trial
June 26, 2013
There's a new trialist in town, and he has a Salzburg connection. It is Ugandan defender Ibrahim Sekagya, who has been on the books of the "sister" club since 2007.
Sekagya, 32, started his career with local team named Kampala City Council before moving to Argentina in 2001. There, he played for Atletico de Rafaela, Ferro Carril Oeste, and Arsenal de Sarandi, before moving to Austria. He has three goals in 34 caps for his country.
"It's someone that's been on radar, someone that from preseason on we were looking to get in to have a look at to see what his options as well as what are options are and we're able to do that right now. Really call it whatever you want. Obviously if anyone comes over and trains with us and impresses us we feel they can be good, we try to make things happen," Mike Petke told reporters.
If Sekagya is to sign, he would join former Salzburg players Markus Schopp and Ernst Oebster to play for both Red Bull-branded clubs.
