Wright-Phillips scores in reserves tie with Dallas
July 29, 2013 (Official Game Summary)
It didn't take long for Red Bulls newcomer Bradley Wright-Phillips to get settled in with his new club, as he contributed the lone New York goal Monday evening in the club's 1-1 reserve league draw against FC Dallas.
After a scoreless first half that saw a fair share of chances on both sides of the pitch, including an Andre Akpan shot that rang off the post in the 15th minute, FC Dallas midfielder Danny Garcia buried the first of the match off assists from Ramon Nunez and Kellyn Acosta to give his side the 1-0 advantage.
Desperate to level the score, New York mustered up an attack in the 86th minute that amounted to a goal from Wright-Phillips, courtesy of an assist from Academy player Arun Basuljevic. The score would remain unchanged over the final minutes, as both teams left the pitch with one point apiece.
Red Bulls goalkeeper Ryan Meara earned the start in net, going the full 90 and nearly earning an assist when his long ball in the 57th minute found the foot of Ruben Bover, who charged in on net. Unfortunately for Bover, Dallas goalkeeper Chris Seitz came off the line, played the angle well, and stopped what would have been a sure goal. On the defensive side, Meara also tallied a handful of saves, including two in the final minutes of stoppage time in the face of FC Dallas' offensive assault.
