Media Day with Peguy Luyindula
March 4, 2014
MetroFanatic: Peguy, scoring goals did not go too well for you last year.
Peguy Luyindula: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
MF: But Titi gave you a gift of a penalty kick.
PL: Yeah. It was cool, you know. The problem last year was about my physique more than my mental. I was worried about the fact that I've been injured two times in a row, in the same spot. And it just hurt my physical capacity, in a way. So it was a great sign that he sent me to score my first goal.
MF: And then, in the game vs Chicago, you had one of the greatest games in team history, three assists, just magnificent. And the team wins its first real silverware.
PL: In football, it's not really about how many goals you're gonna score, or how many assists you're gonna make, if these goals and assists are not in an effective game. You have to be effective at the right time. You have to be prepared for making history. That's how you win titles. I win a lot of titles in France, I have a good record of titles. To get one more, it was just a present to me, because I do not underestimate any of my titles. All of them are the great things that I've done in football. I have another one, and to be a part of history, because this game is history for the club. I'm really proud of that.
MF: You had lots of years in France, lots of titles. Why did you come to America?
PL: My thing was, I was watching from afar, the US soccer. And I thought that, maybe I can play in that league because it seems enjoyable to play there. I thought to myself, why not try to play there. I had lots of propositions to stay in France, but I really wanted to come here, to live here, to give the important thing to my children to grow up here. To give me the opportunity to discover another league, another style of football, and to win titles here.
MF: Do you have any friends in France who want to come here?
PL: (laughs)
MF: Any national teamers?
PL: (laughs) Yeah! They're asking me, they're asking me, for sure!
MF: Well, you can tell them!
PL: Yeah, but there's always that issue with the salary cap, so...
MF: That's how this league is.
PL: Yeah.
MF: Well, you know, if you have some really good friends, they can go the Designated Player route, and that goes above the cap!
PL: (laughs) Yeah, sure, sure, but we're always talking about it, and they are curious about this league. They are always asking me things about the league. I make sure to give the best advice that I can give.
