Metro settles for disappointing 1:1 tie

Metro could not put San Jose away. Up a goal, chance after chance they got to extend the lead and finish off the game. Yet nothing broke through, and the visiting Quakes, on their lone chance of the second half -- what else -- scored, dooming Metro to more points lost.
Matt Miazga's many recent mistakes meant that Ibrahim Sekagya made his first appearance as a starting defender since May. He did help shore up the backline... until the 85th minute, when failure to hit the ball and vacant ball-watching by various members of the team led to the equalizer.
Metro's goal came in the 33rd minute. Titi Henry sprung Bradley Wright-Phillips, but his shot was saved off the line by ex-Metro Jason Hernandez. On the ensuing corner kick, Quake doofus Stephen Lenhart got whistled for a hand ball, and BWP converted the ensuing penalty. It was his 17th goal of the year, already third best in team history.
Other than Luis Robles making an amazing save off a free kick, reaching into the corner to push it out, from that point on, it was all Metro. Lloyd Sam took the ball into the penalty area and centered it to BWP, who miss-hit it wide. Eric Alexander ran into the box and had his shot miss to the left. Alexander then crossed, keeper Jon Busch pushed the ball into Wright-Phillips, but the Englishman failed to control the rebound. Late, with the game now tied, Sam made a lovely cut inside the box, but a Quake defender just got his foot on the shot to clear it.
You know what happens to teams who can't put opponents away? Their season gets put away, sooner rather than later...
