Luis Robles wins MLS Save of the Year
December 4, 2014 (Official Press Release)
New York Red Bulls goalkeeper Luis Robles has won the 2014 Save of the Year for his double save against Seattle Sounders FC on September 20 at Red Bull Arena.
With his team leading 4-1, Robles made two point-blank saves in the 69th minute to keep the Red Bulls comfortably in the driver's seat.
Sounders midfielder Marco Pappa took a left-footed shot from outside the 18-yard-box that deflected off Red Bulls' defender Jamison Olave and changed directions, forcing Robles to go back across his body to make the initial save.
Robles' save deflected right into the path of Sounders' forward Clint Dempsey who headed the rebound towards goal, but Robles extended fully to his right to make the second save. Robles finished the season tied for second in the league in saves with 111, including a career high 10 saves against New England on June 8.
