Tim Ward, Mike Grella to trial
January 26, 2015
You remember Tim Ward, don't you? A once-time promising rookie with the MetroStars, he was traded to Columbus shortly before the Red Bull takeover for the geriatric Chris Henderson. Since then, Ward has bounced around the league, spending time on the rosters of Colorado, Chicago, and San Jose. He has been out of soccer for two years.
You remember Mike Grella, don't you? He was on trial two years ago, but more importantly, he was a one-time college star who snubbed MLS for the supposed greener pastures of Europe. "One day I'd love to come back and play in MLS," Grella said after signing with Leeds in 2009. "I don't have anything against MLS at all, but the dream of playing in Europe, the fans there are so much more passionate and it's so much more real to me." How did he spend the last two season? By playing for the minor league Carolina Railhawks.
Well, Ward and Grella are joining RBNY on trial, according to BigAppleSoccer. Did we mention that like bombastic Sporting Director Ali Curtis, Grella is a product of Duke? Well, here you go.
