The New York Red Bulls have signed 2015 fourth-round draft pick Manolo Sanchez to a MLS contract, the club announced today. Per league rules, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"Manolo came into camp and simply earned this," said simplifying Red Bulls sporting director Ali Curtis. "He has potential and he's shown that he is willing to work hard and learn what we're trying to do here."
Sanchez, a midfielder, was selected by New York with the 79th overall pick in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft out of Clemson University. The Philadelphia native spent three years at Clemson after transferring from Louisville.
"Manolo has impressed us from early on," said Red Bulls head coach Jesse Marsch. "He's a big, strong guy that runs well and has put himself in good positions. He has demonstrated that he's physically and mentally able to play the way we want to play."
As a senior he scored three goals, and his six assists tied for the team lead. For his career, he totaled 10 goals and 15 assists in 65 career appearances.
Sanchez scored the lone goal in a preseason win over USL side Oklahoma City Energy FC in the IMG Suncoast Pro Classic Tournament.
