The Metros took the lead twice, but allowed three second-half goals to give DC United a 4:2 win in Washington. Rodrigo Faria and Mark Lisi scored for the Metros. Everyone's favorite ex-MetroStar, Petter Villegas, scored the tying goal for the Scum.
The Metros got on board in the 4th minute, after Darin Lewis, starting for the suspended Diego Serna, was brought down in the box. Faria converted the PK for the second straight game. Just ten minutes later, Lewis had to be taken off the field with an injury.
Jaime Moreno leveled the score in the 16th minute, as Milton Reyes' work on the right flank led to the equalizer. The first half ended 1:1.
The Metros scored the first goal of the second half, as Mark Lisi, in his second game with the team, headed in Tab Ramos' corner kick in the 62nd minute. The lead lasted only four minutes, as the man traded for Lisi, Villegas, leveled the score. DC then added two more, Etcheverry in the 73rd and Moreno again in the 82nd. The Metro defense looked like Swiss cheese in the second half and DC also hit the post and had a one-on-one breakaway that thankfully ended without a goal.
Overall, a pathetic performance by the MetroStars, who allowed four goals in a regular season game for the first time since the last game of the 2000 season.
Lineup: Howard, Addo, Petke, Jolley, Kamler, Diop, Moore, Hernandez, Ramos, Lewis, Faria. Subs: Lisi, Davis, Ziadie.
