After 12 minutes, the game was over. The scoreboard read 3:0, as Metro was having its way with the team that caused it so much trouble over the years. The final was 4:1, and it could have been much worse. How much did Metro dominate? Anthony Wallace scored a goal. We'll let that sink in.

With Kemar Lawrence away with Jamaica, Wallace was forced to start at left back. Dax McCarty returned from rest, sending Sean Davis to the bench. This week, Jesse Marsch chose to move Bradley Wright-Phillips back to forward at the expense of Abang, and Lloyd Sam regained his usual spot. (Of course, Marsch was not allowed to witness the games from the sidelines after getting ejected last week.)

The floodgates opened four minutes in. Lloyd Sam took it into the box, pausing at the endline. There, he sent a perfect cross to the head of Wright-Phillips, who smashed it in.

Five minutes later, it was Sam's turn to get on the scoresheet. Wright-Phillips, operating in midfield, got the ball to Sam, who sent it to Sacha Kljestan. The ball was circled back to BWP, who found Mike Grella at the edge of the box. The fantastic sequence ended with Sam slashing it in.

And then, in the 12th, a quick passing sequence saw Kljestan send the ball to McCarty, to forwarded it to Wright-Phillips. The Englishman took into the box and beat New England's Bobby Shuttleworth to the long side.

The Revs got one back in the 37th, when a bad bounce led to an Andy Dorman tap-in. The goal was initially ruled offside, but the play was reversed. That might have been the visitor's only quality chance of the night, as manslaughtering forward Charlie Davies was rendered impotent but the always spot-on Matt Miazga.

The nail in the coffin came in the 56th. Metro took a short free kick, and Sam sent in a cross. It was sent back out, and McCarty found Wallace lurking. The defender's shot took a deflection in the box off a Rev defender and trickled in past the dumbfounded Shuttleworth. It was Wallace's first goal of his MLS career. (Somewhere at the Gold Cup, Roy Miller is scratching his head.)

Metro could have make it five after Sal Zizzo was taken down in the box late. He stepped up to take the penalty kick, but telegraphed his intentions, resulting in a save. He then missed the follow-up rebound.

But that was an incredibly minor blemish on a rather enjoyable night. Anthony Wallace scored!
