Banal Metro kisses Canadian sister, 1:1
August 5, 2015
Every year, there are games like these. Games that lack excitement, lack emotion, lack pressure. Games that happen, and then... wilt away in memory. We played Montreal? On August 5, 2015? We tied 1:1? Okay then...
But don't fret, dear reader, we at MetroFanatic are here to preserve such drudgery for generations to come. As you know, we usually start with lineup changes. Despite a three-game week, Jesse Marsch only made two: an obvious return of Kemar Lawrence for Anthony Wallace, and a needed switch of Karl Ouimette for the suspended Damien Perrinelle, as the latter keeps moving up the all-time yellow card charts.
Now we usually recap key moments of the match... Of this there were several, right? There must have been! This game is barely over, and we just can't remember. Oh, right! In the 14th minute, Montreal's Laurent Ciman purposely used his hand to knock the ball away from Bradley Wright-Phillips, and was given a yellow card. Probably should have been a red.
Let's see, what else... Late in the first half, Ouimette, to the displeasure of his family and friends in the stands, decided to fall down. Thankfully, Metro reject Dominic Oduro made a meal of it, deciding to pass the ball instead of shooting at an open net. Lawrence ended up clearing it. Unfortunately, minutes later, in the 42nd, Oduro decided to be selfish, stole the ball from teammate Dilly Duka, and slotted into the Metro net.
See, this is not that bad. It's all coming back. Okay, now the Metro goal... Mike Grella did something right, correct? Yes, he sure did! He sent the ball into the box, where Lloyd Sam was pushed down, but somehow managed to put the ball in the net. The score became 1:1.
Now we're in the home stretch! In the middle of the half, Ouimette made an idiotic play, trying to be fancy with the ball in his own box, and got a talking from captain Dax McCarty. We hope Karl's parents weren't too offended! It was well deserved. Also well deserved was the second yellow on Ciman, coming in the 79th minute, on a needlessly harsh tackle on Sal Zizzo. Marsch decided to try Zizzo at right back for the second half. It sort of worked.
So, up a man, Metro got a shot from BWP that was parried by Evan Bush, and then a last-second free kick by Felipe that hit the woodwork, but rang out. So, 1:1 was it.
Reading the above might make it seem like a lot of things happened in this game! That's called good writing, dear reader. Too bad we can't call it a good game...
Lineup: Robles, Lawrence, Ouimette, Miazga, Lade, McCarty, Martins, Kljestan, Grella, Sam, Wright-Phillips. Subs: Zizzo, Wright-Phillips, Abang.
